Tom Discusses Maryland’s Social Equity With MITA

Thomas Howard and Sergio Barraza-Ingstrom, attorneys at Collateral Base Firm, discussed social equity in Maryland with the Marijuana Industry Trade Association (MITA). MITA is a network of industry professionals and businesses committed to the continued evolution of the cannabis industry through education, transparency, inclusivity, and the development of thoughtful free-market-oriented regulations.

Howard and Barraza-Ingstrom shared their insights on how social equity can be achieved in Maryland, a state with a long history of racial disparities in the criminal justice system. They emphasized the importance of ensuring that all Marylanders have the opportunity to participate in the legal cannabis industry, regardless of their race or socioeconomic background.

The attorneys also discussed the challenges of implementing social equity programs in Maryland, such as the need for adequate funding and the lack of clear guidance from state regulators. However, they expressed optimism that Maryland can become a leader in social equity if it continues to work towards these goals.
